Easter cake pops

21st March


We finished unit 5 in the coursebook, talking about work. The students first reviewed their knowledge about this topic, matching some pictures with a sentence each ans Then, studied the vocabulary bank on p.152.
We continued the class, studying the grammar point for this last section, gerunds and infinitives. To introduce the topic, the students completed a gapped questionnaire either with the gerund or the infinitive, and then they found out about their right job.
After that, we learnt the grammar rules  on p.138 and did an oral practice to consolidate the new structures.
To finish the class, we listened to a girl who joined a contest and decided to try a different job. Her teachers and her will talk about the experience. The students had to listen and answer some comprehension questions.(t. 5.14-5.17)

19th March


We continued talking about men and women. First, We read a text which explained the different topics men and women usually talk about, we expressed our opinion and then, we tried to demonstrate the article was wrong asking the girls in the class to talk about football for about 2 minutes, and the boys about shopping.
After that, we listened to 2 journalists explaining an experiment they carried out to find out if men could enjoy spas as much as women (T.5.8-5.11).

To finish the class, the students discussed in small groups about the things men and women usually do and then, we listened to a song by Avril Lavigne.

14th March


During this class, we reviewed the grammar point about an/other, each and every.
To practise these new structures, we did an oral activity to talk about our lifestyles.

We continued the session watching a video of an American cemedian explaining the differences between men and women's brains.
Then, we read a gapped text and completed it with an article. We read and worked the exercises about the articles in English and finally completed a second text with the same type of words.

12th March


We started the session reading the texts about Slow food movement on pp.70-71. Every student read one of the texts and reported the information to his/her classmates. Then, answered in  pairs to the comprehension questions.
After that, we read a political leaflet and match the verbs with their definitions and did a word formation exercise. The student learnt how to create nouns form verbs, using endings like -ment, -al, -ion or -ation, and from adjectives, using endings like, -ness, -(i)ty.

We finished the class discussing in groups how we thought a slow town should be.

7th March

We started a new unit form the coursebook, unit 5. In this unit we'll work the quantifiers and word formation.
To open the topic, some expressions of time were written on the board, and the students had to say another way of expressing those times.

15 minutes= a quarter of an hour
30 minutes=half an hour
60 minutes= an hour
90 minutes=an hour and a half
150 minutes= two hours and a half

Then, we continued the class, discussing in pairs some questions about how much time we spent on a weekday doing certain activities.
After that, we read 3 short texts by 3 different people and we had to decide if they had a good wokk-life balance or not. And then, choose the correct form of the quantifier to complete the texts.
Then, we went to the grammar bank section and studied some of the most common quantifiers in English, we learnt about their meaning and grammatical structure. To consolidate this point, we did the grammar exercises.
To finish the class, we listened to an expert giving some tips about how to slow down in our lives (T5.3)

5th March

We finished unit 5 watching the video about practical English. We learnt how to suggest, agree and refuse those suggestions. To consolidate these new structures we did a role-play activity in which the students had to decide how to spend a day out in London with little money.

Then we corrected the pending reading exercises and finished the class working out the rephrasing stage.

28th February


We started the lesson correcting the grammar exercises from Grammar bank 4c (usually/used to).
The nwe went back to the coursebook and listened to Carol and Alex talking about their experiences with the meeting. The students listened and answered some comprehension questions.(T.4.11,4.12)

To consolidate the structures with used to, we did an oral activity in which the students had to write some personal information about their past habits and their classmates had to guess if it was true or a lie.

We continued the class, studying some expressions with the verb "to get". First we matched the expressions with their meanings, and then completed a gapped text.

We finished the class listening to 3 speakers talking about friendship and the students had to choose the statements they were talking about and then if these speakers agreed or not with them.

After listening, the students had to agree or disagree with those staements themselves.

Homework: p.65, Describing a house or flat. Ex.b,c.
                    Writing task, A description of your house, 120 words.
