In this class, we studied the differences between -ed/-ing adjectives.
We learnt that -ed adjectives are used to describe the person who has the feeling:
I'm bored
And -ing adjectives are used to describe the person or thing that causes the feeling:
The film is boring.
We did some grammatical practice in the coursebook. (ex.4a,b,c,d)
Then an oral activity which consisted of interviewing our classmate to guess how emotive s/he was.

After that, we listened to a psychologist talking about how to succeed at learning new things. We had to tick the tips we heard and then write an exmaple of each. (T3.3).

We finished the session with the Practical English section in the book(p.48). We listened to Mark asking directions and completed a gapped text. After that, we put into practice the new structures and vocabulary with an oral activity (p.117/120).

During this class, we studied the modals verbs with a meaning of ability and possibility.
But to start with, we learned about "in case" expression. It is mainly used to say what may happen, so you'd better take precaution before it happens.
To introduce the topic, we did a matching activity. We had to match the two parts of 8 travel tips. Then, we did some grammatical exercises to distinguished between "if" and "in case" and finally, we wrote some pieces of advice including the new phrase.

We continued the session, reading a text about some people to tried to learn something, but failed.
We had to complete this text with some missing phrases and then, analyse the tenses of the verbs included in those phrases.
To finish the class, We studied the grammatical rules about the modals verbs of possibility (can, could, be able to) and did an oral activity which consisted of interviewing our partner to find out his/her abilities.

During this session we studied the modals of deduction: must, can't, may and might. To start with, we read a text from the coursebook. We had to analyse some photos and then express our judge about the girls. At the end, we found out who they were. We read the grammar point on some slides showed in class, did the practice and read the explanations in the book. For next day, we need to complete the grammar exercises from p.135. (3B). To finish, we listened to a Flamenco guitarist and did the comprehension exercises 5a/b/c/d (T.3.8/3.9). Homework: Workbook pp.22-29 Complete the photocopies about modals of obligation and deduction. 10th January

We started the class revising the meaning and function of the modal verbs of obligation but in a different context: to describe street signs.
To do so, the students had to watch some slides with specific signs and try to explain their meaning and the country where they could be found.

Then we continued with the course book and a new section: modals of deduction.
To start with, we read a text about some people and their passport photos, we completed the comprehension exercises(1a-e) and did the vocabulary bank exercises to describe people.

Slides to describe people's appearance

We also studied the differences between look and look like.
Look+adjectives
look like+ nouns/pronouns
Here you have some slides to practise these structures. (I'm unable to show them in class, so you need to revise them at home).

To finish the class, we listened to two ladies describing a criminal and the students had to spot him out from a series of photos(t.3.5)

8th January

During this lesson we learnt about English manners.
We started reading a postcard and then a text in which a woman expressed the differences between the Russian and the British, in means of politeness.
After reading, the students had to decide if the statements on exercise 4c were true or false and correct the false ones.
Then, we listened to 4 people talking about their experiences while living in England. The ss had to say whether the speakers thought the English were too polite or not and answer some comprehension exercises.
To finish the session, we discussed in groups 5 different situations about manners and read about other strange customs in different countries and say if they were true or not.
